Revitalizing Astoria

Creating a vibrant community hub in a 5-square block area.

Client

INNOVATION QNS

Project Summary

With Silverstein Properties, Kaufman Astoria Studios, and BedRock Real Estate Partners, Innovation QNS aims to transform an underutilized area into a vibrant, neighborhood-focused, mixed-use creative district, which builds on Astoria's rich cultural heritage and creates meaningful economic opportunities.

Challenge

Innovation QNS's plans to turn this corner of Astoria into a bustling center of activity, which would include mixed-income housing, open spaces, retail shops, a cutting-edge cinema, and a community center for nonprofits, were challenged by community concerns about overdevelopment.

Results

MirRam made Innovative QNS' community engagement and messaging program possible. The advocacy process involved building a database of neighbors engaged in the project. Advocates validated InnovationQNS at community meetings, before elected officials, and on social media.

MirRam's guidance led to remarkable results. We made more than 7,000 phone calls and delivered more than 5,000 cards and emails to residents in the project's catchment area. It was this groundswell of support that led to approval.
